Caroline Hyde answered on 23 Nov 2023:
A Health Psychologist typically works to support overall health and well-being. This involves taking a bio-psycho-social approach to health and well-being. Often you will find Health Psychologists supporting individuals with chronic health conditions. This could mean assisting individuals to make necessary lifestyle changes (such as for diabetes or cardiovascular conditions – like getting more active or adhering to a particular diet) OR supporting mental health in order to make treatment adherence for their physical condition (like arthritis or cancer) easier.
We now know that a holistic approach to wellbeing (and health) means supporting positive social interactions as well as physical and psychological (emotional) wellbeing.
