About Me:
I live with my family in Oxford. I teach and research at the University of Oxford, where I study nematode worms and how they develop from egg to adult. I gave the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures on TV a few years back – you can watch them at https://www.rigb.org/christmas-lectures/watch-royal-institution-christmas-lectures-archive. I love hiking, singing in a choir, being with my kids and dog, and lasagne!

My Work:
I’m a genetics professor at the University of Oxford. I teach genetics to undergraduates and I do research on nematode worms, trying to figure out how they develop and age, and how they evolve. Because the worms’ genes are similar to our own, we can apply what we learn from worms to our own biology.

Education:
I went to school in Kingston-Upon-Thames in South West London. After that I started a degree course in environmental science but discovered it wasn’t quite what I wanted so after that I went to work in a lab as a technician and ended up doing a part-time biological sciences degree at Birkbeck College, before completing my PhD at the University of Oxford. After my PhD I worked in Cambridge for a few years as a research scientist before returning to Oxford where I set up my own lab.
